What advanced aesthetic medicine is
Advanced aesthetic medicine uses devices that deliver controlled energy (ultrasound, electromagnetic fields, light or microcurrents) to act on skin, fat or muscle without a scalpel and, in most cases, without needles. Each technology works at a different depth and on a different tissue, so the important question is not which machine is best but which one fits what bothers you.
At Clínica Eupnea these treatments complement the rest of the aesthetic medicine service: a medical assessment comes first, and only then do we decide whether a device, an injectable technique or a combination of both makes sense.
- Laxity of the face, double chin and neck: HIFU 7D.
- Muscle tone of the abdomen and buttocks: ProDefine Body Sculpt.
- Localised fat and body contour: DetoxBody and the body cartridges of HIFU 7D.
- Skin quality, hydration and radiance: Meso Skin Dual.
HIFU 7D: focused ultrasound to tighten skin without surgery
HIFU (high-intensity focused ultrasound) concentrates energy into very small points at a set depth. At those points the tissue heats up in a controlled way and tiny coagulation zones form in the deep dermis and in the supporting muscular layer of the face, the SMAS, which is the same layer a surgical facelift tightens. The skin surface is left untouched. The body repairs these micro-injuries with new collagen, which is why the result is not immediate: the tissue keeps remodelling over the following weeks.
What «7D» means
It is the name given to devices with seven interchangeable cartridges working at different depths. According to the manufacturer's specifications, the 1.5, 2, 3 and 4.5 millimetre cartridges are used on the face and neck, and the 6, 9 and 13 millimetre ones on body areas. Being able to choose the depth means the skin and the supporting layer beneath it can be treated in the same session.
What HIFU 7D is used for
- Mild to moderate laxity of the lower face, jawline and double chin.
- Skin of the neck and décolletage.
- The area around the eyes, with the most superficial cartridges.
- Contour of the abdomen and thighs, with the body cartridges.
A systematic review published in 2025 in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, pooling 45 studies, found improvements in skin laxity of 18 to 30 % in the lower face, neck and periorbital area, and circumference reductions of 2.5 to 4.5 centimetres on the abdomen and thighs. Fewer than 5 % of patients had adverse effects, and these were transient: redness, swelling or mild discomfort.
ProDefine Body Sculpt: electromagnetic stimulation for muscle tone
ProDefine Body Sculpt applies a high-intensity electromagnetic field that triggers involuntary muscle contractions, far more intense and repetitive than anything voluntary exercise can achieve. No electrodes or gel are needed: you lie on the couch, the applicators are placed over the area and the session lasts 20 to 30 minutes. The device can work on two areas at once and uses neither heat nor cold.
Areas and programmes
It is designed mainly for the abdomen, waist and flanks, and the buttocks. It has five programmes which, depending on the goal, combine strength and muscle firmness work, fat burning, and muscle stretching and massage. It feels like an intense workout of that area, and afterwards there may be some stiffness or the odd cramp.
The US regulator, the FDA, explains that this family of technologies can improve the tone and firmness of the muscles of the abdomen, arms, buttocks, thighs and calves, but that the effect may be temporary and need maintenance sessions. It is not a weight-loss treatment: weight depends on diet and physical activity.
DetoxBody: low-level light and Andullation for body contouring
DetoxBody is a device designed by the German company HHP that combines two technologies. The first is photobiomodulation: low-level light and laser at four wavelengths (635, 650, 808 and 940 nanometres) acting on fat cells. The second is Andullation, a combination of mechanical vibration and infrared heat whose amplitude and frequency change randomly every five seconds, which supports lymphatic drainage.
The programme is chosen according to each patient's weight. The FDA points out that low-level light uses very low doses that do not heat the skin or fat, and that it may temporarily reduce the circumference of the treated area. That is why DetoxBody makes sense as part of a plan that includes diet and exercise, not as a substitute for them. At the clinic it can be coordinated with the therapeutic nutrition service.
Meso Skin Dual: needle-free mesotherapy
Meso Skin Dual, by the Utsukusy brand, combines microcurrents, electroporation and LED light to deliver active cocktails into the skin without needles. Electroporation applies short electrical pulses that temporarily increase the permeability of the skin, and light completes the treatment: red LED is used for fine lines and to stimulate collagen, and blue LED for blemish-prone and acne-prone skin.
It has facial and body programmes, is painless and lets you carry on as normal straight afterwards. The brand presents it as a needle-free alternative to conventional mesotherapy and microneedling. When an injectable product or a deeper action is needed, the doctor will weigh it up alongside the other techniques of the specialty, such as facial mesotherapy or biostimulation.
How we choose the right technology
The first visit is for listening to what bothers you, reviewing your history and previous treatments and examining the area. Thin skin with little laxity is not the same as a contour with localised fat or an abdomen with poor muscle tone. From there we propose one technology or a combination, with the number of sessions and the interval tailored to the case.
Expectations also need discussing. The FDA stresses that not everyone responds in the same way to these treatments, that the effect may be temporary and that more than one session is often needed. A sound indication and a realistic goal count for more than the technology itself.
Safety and contraindications
These are non-invasive treatments, but they are still medical procedures with benefits and risks. Before starting, tell us if you have a pacemaker, a defibrillator or any other electronic implant, if you have metal under the skin in the area to be treated, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, if you take medicines that make you sensitive to light or blood thinners, and if you have an infection or a wound on the skin, a history of skin cancer in the area or a tendency to keloid scarring.
Active implants and metal under the skin rule out both HIFU and electromagnetic stimulation, and low-level light is not used during pregnancy, in people with photosensitivity disorders or over an area with skin cancer. The FDA guide to non-invasive body contouring technologies sets out these precautions in detail.

Frequently Asked Questions about Advanced Aesthetic Medicine in Palamós
It is the part of aesthetic medicine that uses devices delivering controlled energy (focused ultrasound, electromagnetic fields, low-level light or microcurrents) to treat skin, fat or muscle without surgery. At Clínica Eupnea we have HIFU 7D, ProDefine Body Sculpt, DetoxBody and Meso Skin Dual, and we always start with a medical assessment.
You feel heat and brief discomfort where the energy is concentrated, especially over bony areas such as the jawline. It is generally well tolerated and you can carry on as normal the same day. Afterwards there may be some redness or slight swelling, which are transient; significant adverse effects are uncommon.
It depends on the technology and the goal. HIFU 7D is done in a few spaced-out sessions, because new collagen takes weeks to form, whereas ProDefine Body Sculpt, DetoxBody and Meso Skin Dual are planned as courses of several sessions. The exact number is set at the assessment, and it is worth knowing that the effect of some treatments is temporary and needs maintenance.
No. It tones and firms the muscle in the treated area, which improves how the abdomen or buttocks look, but it is not a weight-loss treatment. The FDA is clear about this for all non-invasive body contouring technologies: they do not treat obesity or replace the health benefits of losing weight.
Yes, and it often makes sense, because they work on different tissues: DetoxBody on contour and ProDefine Body Sculpt on muscle tone, or HIFU 7D for laxity and Meso Skin Dual for skin quality. The order and intervals are decided by the doctor for each case.
People with a pacemaker, defibrillator or other active implants, and those with metal under the skin in the area, cannot have HIFU or electromagnetic stimulation. Low-level light is not used during pregnancy, in photosensitivity disorders or over an area with skin cancer, and no area with an infection or a wound is treated. That is why you need to tell us about your medicines and medical history.
No. It combines microcurrents, electroporation and LED light to deliver the active cocktails into the skin without any needles. It is painless and needs no recovery time.
